The barn swallow is certainly the most melodious of the swallows. A pity we cannot attract it to a nest box.

Unlike the tree swallow, the barn swallow often has two broods per season. That lets us enjoy its presence for longer.

Its distinctive feature: its long forked tail.

It has a chestnut forehead and throat, dark metallic blue upperparts and cinnamon underparts.

Its nest is made of mud reinforced with grass stems and lined inside with hair and feathers.

Common in Quebec up to the centre of the province, it usually nests on and in farm buildings, under bridges or in caves, in isolated pairs or in small colonies.
